INJURED workers in California are under assault. As a result of deregulation of workers compensation, their permanent disability has been slashed more than 50%. They face one obstacle after another with company doctors in medical review boards stalling their healthcare and some injured workers have been retaliated against for filing workers compensation claims by district attorneys who at the same time refuse to prosecute insurance companies for fraud.

There are more fish and game inspectors in California than OSHA-Inspectors and the last doctor of Cal-OSHA Larry Rose has not been replaced since he retired. The destruction of Ca-OSHA is a threat to every worker and their family in California.

In Davis, California biotech worker David Bell was working at Agraquest and despite requests for proper health and safety protection, the company refused to even put up hazard signs. He was infected by microorganisms and is still fighting for his life. The company which is owned by Pam Marrone who used to work for Monsanto has refused to pay for his healthcare and he has been forced to go on social security insurance with costs of over $300,000. WE NEED TO GET THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY OUT OF HEALTHCARE AND GET SINGLE PAYER.

His mother Sandi Trend also discovered that there were patents by company scientists for the very materials that was found in her son’s body but this company has still blocked and stalled taking responsibility for these injuries putting his life in greater danger.

Join SEIU-UHW, Unite-HERE, UFCW, SEIU 1000, NALC and UBC workers in speaking out about these travesties and demanding health and safety on the job and healthcare and benefits for workers who are injured. Also speaking will be Davis resident Dan Berman, author of Death On The Job.
