No Cargo Moved For Israeli Zim Ship At The Port Of Oakland On June 20, 2010

Nearly 500 labor and community activists on June 20, 2010 at 5:30 AM in the morning successfully stopped the movement of cargo at the SSA terminal where an Israeli ship was due to arrive at 3:30 PM. The PMA-ILWU Coast Arbitrator rules that it was a valid health and safety issue and the ILWU Local 10 and ILWU Local 34 members were dismissed from going to work. Under the contract they will not be punished for abiding by the picket line. This is an historic action in solidarity with the call of the Palestinian unions and workers around the world to boycott cargo to an from Israel. It was also endorsed by the San Francisco Labor Council and the Alameda Central Labor Council representing hundreds of thousands of union workers in Northern California.
The organizing committee called the Labor/Community Committee in Solidarity with the People of Palestine received support statements from around the world including the Cuban Trade Unions, the Oakland Education Association and other greetings.
The picket line will continue with the 5:00 PM shift and support is continue to be mobilized in support.
