National Press Conference in Washington, DC
to Announce August 12 March

Please donate now!

This is a critical time and we need to raise $50,000 in the next two weeks. We are organizing buses from all over the country. The buses need to be paid for in advance. We are contracting for sound, stage, porta johns, and paying for posters, leaflets, placards.

Donate to August 12 march

There continues to be an amazing response to the appeal to support the Aug. 12 National Emergency March on Washington, but we still need your help to make it a success. The demonstration offers the best opportunity to show the opposition by the people of the United States to the Bush administration's partnership with the Israeli government in waging war against the people of Palestine and Lebanon.

Below is a copy of a media alert for a national press conference that will take place Thursday, July 27, at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. We will circulate copies of media coverage in the coming days.

We appeal to everyone who believes in justice to support the August 12th National March on Washington. Come to Washington, volunteer and participate. If you are unable to come, but would like to help subsidize the cost of bus transportation so that others can come, you can do so by making an urgently needed donation today. Click here to donate.

As we mentioned in yesterday's email communication, we have to pay all of our bills now, including buses, stage, sound, port a johns, flyers, posters, placards, and other associated expenses. If you haven't yet made a donation to help support the August 12th National March, please do so today by clicking here.

A coalition of Arab-American and U.S. peace groups will be holding a press conference on Thursday, July 27, to announce plans for a "massive National Emergency March on Washington DC on Saturday, August 12 to protest the U.S.-Israeli war against the people of Palestine and Lebanon."

"Buses and car caravans are being organized to bring people to Washington DC on August 12 from cities and towns throughout the United States," stated Brian Becker, National Coordinator of the ANSWER Coalition. The August 12 National March on Washington D.C. is initiated by ANSWER Coalition, National Council of Arab-Americans, and the Muslim American Society, Freedom Foundation.

The August 12 event will be the largest mobilization to date within the United States to oppose the latest U.S.-Israeli war drive against Lebanon and Gaza, according to the initiating organizations.

The press conference will discuss plans for August 12, the situation regarding rally and march permits, and outline a nationwide campaign to mobilize the U.S. antiwar movement, the Arab-American and Muslim community, and all people of conscience to oppose what the organizers call, "the criminal war that has already killed hundreds of civilians and displaced hundreds of thousands of people from their home.”

The press conference will also include direct eyewitness testimony from Dr. Mounzer Sleiman who has just returned from war-torn Lebanon. Dr. Sleiman is an independent analyst on national security affairs who appears frequently as a commentator on a number of Arab TV networks and radio outlets.

Speakers will include:
-Ramsey Clark, former U.S. Attorney General
-Dr. Mounzer Sleiman, National Council of Arab Americans, Independent Military and Political Analyst who just returned from Lebanon
-Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, Co-Founder Partnership for Civil Justice
-Mahdi Bray, Director, Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation
-Peta Lindsay, Howard University student, Youth and Student ANSWER Coalition
-Brian Becker, National Coordinator, ANSWER Coalition
-Rev. Graylan Hagler, Senior Pastor, Plymouth Congregational Church
