Northwest Airlines AFA-CWA Detroit
silent picket

From: skirkland@cwa-union.org
Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2007

Dear Union Sisters and Brothers . . .

The Northwest Airlines flight attendants have been living and working under an imposed set of work rules and paycuts since July 31, 2006. The AFA-CWA strike strategy, CHAOS (Create Havoc Around Our System), has been blocked by the courts at the request of NWA management. As recently as the first week of December, the National Mediation Board abruptly halted our talks with the company and there has been no movement until now.

AFA-CWA negotiators will meet with the company on Friday, February 2, at the request of the NMB.

To that end, we have the opportunity to remind the working women and men of America that we have been denied our basic right to strike under the law.

It's time to once again put a face on a 40% paycut, 20% more productivity and unlivable work rules. We have the opportunity to show management and the public that a slap to one group is an insult to all labor.

To bring attention to the issue and to give support to our negotiators at the table, Northwest flight attendants will be holding a silent picket at the Detroit Airport Friday, February 2 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. We will meet at the North end of the departure level, the side opposite the Westin Hotel.

You have all been incredibly supportive of us in the past and we are once again inviting you to join us for this picket. Flight attendants will be in uniforms but we will have a supply of CHAOS t-shirts for supporters and families to wear over warm clothing.

If you would like more information, please feel free to give me a call.

Best to you all in the new year.
In Solidarity,

Daniel Grey, AFA-CWA
