        Keeping the ILWU Legacy Alive!

        COME CELEBRATE A HISTORIC LABOR VICTORY!

In 1984, longshore workers at Pier 80 in San Francisco refused to handle
cargo from South Africa on the Nedlloyd Kimberly in a protest against the
bloody apartheid repression. This boycott action, which was supported by a
large community demonstration, lasted for ten days, ending after a federal
injunction declared the solidarity action ³illegal². It was heralded by
Nelson Mandela, upon his release from prison, as the spark which re-igni
ILWU Local 10 will be sponsoring a commemorative celebration of the 20th
anniversary of this historic labor solidarity action.  A video of the action
will be shown as well as speeches from the participants. There¹ll be food,
drink,  fellowship and  enjoying the music of the Freedom Song Network who
performed on the picket line.
