AIRLINE’S POOR PERFORMANCE

Demonstrations to be Held Nationwide

Fort Worth, TX – ON THE HEELS OF massive flights being cancelled last week,
hundreds of American Airlines pilots will demonstrate in nine major U.S. cities
to call attention to the airlines’ poor performance and customer service,
including its ranking as having the worst on-time performance among network
carriers.

The pilots will be urging passengers to help American Airlines employees get
management’s attention to fix these problems. The pilots are members of the
Allied Pilots Association (APA), which represents the 12,000 pilots of American
Airlines, the nation’s largest air carrier.

Founded in 1963, the Allied Pilots Association—the largest independent pilot
union in the U.S.—is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. APA represents the
12,000 pilots of American Airlines, including 2,218 pilots on furlough. The
furloughs began shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks. Also, several
hundred American Airlines pilots are on full-time military leave of absence
serving in the armed forces. The union’s Web site address is

carrier and fifth-largest cargo carrier.
