Global Days of Action March 18-20
Spring calendar: Two months of activism - get involved with ANSWERDear ANSWER supporter,
Starting next weekend and lasting over the duration of the next two months there will be an intense level of mass anti-war and anti-imperialist organizing and mobilization. We hope everyone will join the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition and other anti-war groups in building mass opposition to the government’s War for Empire.
Iraq is at the center of many of these mobilizations but so is the threatened aggression and intervention against Iran, Venezuela, Haiti, North Korea, Cuba and the Philippines. In Palestine the U.S. and Israeli authorities are trying to starve the people in retaliation for having democratically voted for candidates that don't meet their approval.
This is a critical juncture for the anti-war movement. The Bush government is discredited. Its approval rating is in the basement because the people have turned against the war and are disgusted with the criminal neglect in the wake of the hurricanes. People are outraged by the administration's attempts to eviscerate civil rights and civil liberties, and its exposed domestic spying operations. Yet the Democrats continue to vote for every allocation to sustain the criminal war in the Middle East, provide no resistance to Bush's attack on the Bill of Rights - including the reauthorization of the repressive Patriot Act. The Democrats are likewise culpable for turning their backs on working class communities in crisis at home. The hope for the future is to build a new radical peoples movement. That is how we won union rights, civil rights, women’s rights -- all the social achievements that are being targeted for destruction. This is the only real road to peace as well.
Thousands of people are active as volunteers and activists, others help by making a donation. Some do both. This is a peoples movement and we are getting stronger but we urge everyone to redouble their commitment and involvement.
Please donate to help support all of these activities. For nearly five years the ANSWER Coalition has been organizing day in and day out against Bush's endless war but we can't do it without your help. Please make as generous donation as you can today by clicking here.
As Bush's approval ratings drop to 30%, as the anti-war position has become the majority sentiment, and as the other ruling party, the Democratic party fumbles to be a weak shadow of the Republicans, it is up to the people to forge the political direction of this country.

April 20, 2006: An Evening with Leonard Weinglass
The Case of the Cuban 5, What's at Stake: the Legal and Constitutional Issues
This will be an exciting and informative evening featuring Leonard Weinglass, renowned civil rights attorney and lawyer for the Cuban 5, address the legal issues in the appellate case before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Columbia Law School, Thursday April 20, 7 p.m.
The Cuban Five political prisoners, who have already served seven and a half years in U.S. prisons, due to their unjust convictions and sentences, had their appeals heard in oral arguments before an "en banc" hearing, in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, on February 14.
The year 2006 will be crucial in their legal and political battle to win freedom. Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, and René González are anti-terrorists activists who were stopping terrorists from carrying out attacks on the island of Cuba.Sponsors: ANSWER Coalition, National Lawyers Guild, National Free the Five Committee, and Civil Rights Legal Society
April 29 Anti-war March in New York City
The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition is mobilizing within New York City and with its chapters and organizing centers to bring people to the New York City demonstration on April 29. The banners and slogans of different coalitions who are mobilizing for this demonstration may not be the same, but it is in the interest of everyone to march shoulder-to-shoulder against the criminal war in Iraq and the Bush administration's War for Empire, including its racist, sexist and anti-worker domestic program.
As we said in our Call to Action, "At its core, the war for Empire is supported by the Republican Party and Democratic Party alike, which constitute the twin parties of militarism and war, and this quest for global domination will continue regardless of the outcome of the 2006 election. In fact, leading Democrats are attacking Bush for being "soft" on Iran and North Korea. Real hope for turning the tide rests with building a powerful global movement of resistance in which the people of the United States stand with their sisters and brothers struggling against imperialism and the new colonialism."

May 20 March in Washington DC: Hands Off Venezuela, Hands Off Cuba
Originally scheduled for April 8, this demonstration has been moved to Saturday May 20 in Washington D.C. The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition has joined other groups to form the ad hoc Hands Off Venezuela, Hands Off Cuba Coalition.Desperately bogged down in its war for Empire in Iraq, the Bush administration is escalating its threats and campaigns to undermine, subvert, provoke, and overthrow the government of Venezuela, while strengthening the economic blockade of Cuba, tightening the travel ban to Cuba, and refusing to extradite vicious anti-Cuba terrorist killers like Luis Posada Carriles.
