Call For AFL-CIO Action on US Attack On Iraq Unionists
THE BAY AREA LABOR Committee For Peace & Justice urges the national AFL-CIO
to take a public position against the occupation of Iraq and President
Bush's use of the US military to attack unionists in Iraq.
The recent arrests of leaders of Iraq's Union of the Unemployed and a raid
on the Iraqi Federation of Trade Unions on December 6, 2003 by US forces
constitute a threat to all democratic rights.
The ICFTU as well as many other unions from throughout the world have voiced
their protest against these union busting tactics. The AFL-CIO should not
continue to remain silent on this issue
We call on the national AFL-CIO to issue a forceful NO! to the use of the US
military for union busting, at home or abroad.
We, the undersigned, endorse this request and urge prompt AFL-CIO action:
