Defense Jobs Available in California
Out-of-Work Members Urged to Apply

Teamsters Joint Councils and local unions are looking for out-of-
work members to fill 362 positions with the Vinnell Corporation. The
company has a contract with the U.S. military at Fort Irwin,
California.

Any interested Teamsters, or family members or friends of Teamsters,
are urged to contact Vinnell about the positions. Once hired, the
workers will become members of Local 166 in Bloomington, California.
Qualified veterans and non-veterans are being sought to fill the
positions.

"One of the best ways to organize is to supply our contractors with
qualified manpower," said Norm Bouley, an International Organizer
with the Building Material and Construction Trade Division.

Anyone interested is urged to contact Herman E. Cain, human
resources assistant recruiter for Vinnell. Cain can be reached at
(760) 380-2334 (office), or (760) 221-4612 (cell).

The following positions need to be filled: ammunition handlers, part-
time truck drivers, parts clerks, POL (fuel) handlers, tactical
vehicle mechanics, tracked-vehicle mechanics, a stock control
specialist, supply clerks, tactical trades helpers, technical
inspectors for wheeled vehicles, technical inspectors for tracked
vehicles, tracked vehicle trade helpers and warehouse workers.

The positions will be in effect for three to five years. Sign-on
bonuses are available for the mechanic positions. The jobs include
excellent pay and benefits.

The Teamsters Union is reaching out to veterans through its "Helmets
to Hardhats" program, where the union provides job opportunities to
veterans. The positions need to be filled by March 15, 2006.
