Local 2 Takes to the Streets on Labor Day. Over 130 Arrested. Part
1. Hundreds of hotel workers and their allies took to the streets
this Labor Day to demonstrate their growing impatience with the San
Francisco Hotels Multi-Employer Group, which is taking a hard line
in negotations with Local 2. Over a hundred were arrested as they
blocked cable car traffic around Union Square, in the heart of San
Francisco's tourist district. Three weeks after the expiration of
Local 2's citywide contract, the MEG still refuses to guarantee
maintenance of health care benefits, and is trying to weaken San
Francisco workers by dividing them from hotel workers throughout
North America. Local 2 members will take a strike authorization vote
on September 14. QT movie. 3.5 min. 13MB. Parts 1-3 are below.
